Terms: This is a permanent, full time job

Education: The applicant should have completed high school, some college or technical training, completed college or technical training, completed university.

Experience: is an asset.

Work Setting: Social and family service agency

Area of Social Work Specialization: Child welfare

Type of Clients: Adolescents, Adult, Child, Elderly, Female, Male, Minority group, Social assistance recipient

Specific Skills: Interview clients to assess their situation and determine the types of services required and eligibility, Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems, Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services, Investigate cases of child abuse or neglect and take authorized protective action when necessary, Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team working with a client group, Lobby for solutions to problems affecting client groups, Apply for social program funding, Provide mediation services and psychosocial assessments, Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and social programs, Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods, Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs

Additional Skills: Perform administrative tasks, Use computer applications

Security and Safety: Criminal record check, Enhanced reliability security clearance, Child abuse registry check, Child welfare check

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Attention to detail

Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver’s licence, Own vehicle

Work Location Information: Rural area

Ability to Supervise: Staff in various areas of responsibility
