Terms: This is a permanent, full time job, which requires working days.

Salary: will be $21.00 to $25.00 per hour for a 40 hour week.

Education: The applicant should have completed high school, completed college or technical training.

Experience: at least five years’ experience.

Credentials required: The applicant should have Tilesetter Trade Certification, Driver’s License.

Major Work Area: Construction, Repair, Specialty design work, Historical restoration

Type of Establishment/Work Setting Experience: Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, Residential, Shopwork

Area of Specialization: General tilesetting (floors, walls, ceilings, etc.), Ceramics, Terrazzo work, Marble and granite, Exterior veneers, Glass mosaics or murals, Decorative pillars and arches, Food processing and display areas

Materials Used: Ceramic, Mosaic, Marble, Quarry, Slate, Stone, Terrazzo, Granite

Specific Skills: Prepare, measure and mark surfaces to be covered, Mix, apply and spread adhesive substances, Set tiles in place and apply pressure to affix them to base, Align and straighten tiles, Cut and fit tiles around obstacles, Pack grout into joints and between tiles, Remove and replace cracked or damaged tiles, Determine best layout of tiles, Reinforce surfaces or build required underbases, Cut, surface, polish and install marble and granite, Install terrazzo surfaces and polish surfaces by hand or using machines, Install pre-cast terrazzo, granite or marble units

Additional Skills: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications, Prepare rough plans and sketches, Estimate labour and material costs, Prepare tenders and quotations, Work at heights, Instruct apprentices, Supervise other workers

Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding, Handling heavy loads, Bending, crouching, kneeling

Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver’s licence, Own vehicle
